In June 2020, Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program [PEI PNP] held 3 draws – on June 10, 18, and 23 – inviting candidates from the categories of Express Entry, Labour Impact, as well as Business Impact to apply for a provincial nomination for Canada PR.
Prince Edward Island, the smallest of the 10 provinces of Canada, is one of the 9 Canadian provinces that are a part of the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada. Quebec has its own immigration program and is not a part of the PNP.
The Island, as it is commonly referred to by locals, is also a part of Canada’s Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program.
90 immigration candidates have been issued invitations in the 3 draws held by the PEI PNP in June 2020.
The third draw of the month – on June 23 – was the first draw since the COVID-19 pandemic to include the category of Business Impact. With 20 immigrant entrepreneurs being issued invitations in the latest draw, this is the most number of entrepreneurs invited in a PEI PNP draw so far in 2020.
While in the January 16 draw, as many as 13 entrepreneurs received invitations, 10 were invited in the February 20 draw. This is the third draw of 2020 so far that has included the Business Impact category.
Express Entry Category
The PEI PNP’s Express Entry category is aligned with the federal Express Entry system. A Canada immigration candidate can apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada through the category of PEI Express Entry.
To be eligible for a nomination, the candidate must
There are 2 pathways to permanent residency through this category, depending on whether or not the candidate has a job offer in PEI PNP.
Labour Impact category
Targeted at foreign nationals that have “a valid job offer and support from a PEI employer”, the Labour Impact category allows such candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canada permanent residency through the PEI PNP.
There are 3 separate streams under this category –
Business Impact
This PEI PNP category is for “foreign nationals interested in pursuing a viable business opportunity in PEI” and who would also like to apply for being provincially nominated by PEI for Canada PR.
Candidates have to submit their Expression of Interest [EOI] profile to the PEI PNP in order to be considered for the Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact categories.
