Overseas Immigration updates in Hong Kong and Germany

Hong Kong supports LGBT Rights in Overseas Immigration

The Director of Immigration excluded same-sex couples from the policy of granting dependent Visa. As quoted by JDSUPRA, the Hong Kong Court of Appeal (CA) has opposed this decision. It said the decision is unlawful.

The CA said it is not right to discriminate Overseas Immigrants in terms of their sexual orientation. The aim should be to bring as many skilled and experienced workers as possible. That would help the country's economy. The decision is not justified and hence, should be changed. This opposition from the CA has opened doors for Immigrants who are in same-sex partnership or marriage. It makes Hong Kong more popular for Overseas Immigration.

Minimum Annual Salary to increase for Non-EEA Nationals in Germany

The minimum salary for non-European Economic Area (non-EEA) nationals in Germany will increase. This is for Immigrants who are going to apply for an EU Blue Card. Their salary will increase to €53,600 per year. If the Overseas Immigrant takes up a shortage job, the minimum salary would be €41,808 per year. The new change is valid for applications submitted on or after 1 January 2019.

E-Services launched in India

On October 11, India launched e-Services for all foreign nationals. This new initiative eliminates the need for Overseas Immigrants to visit the Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) in person. Registration and Visa applications can now be submitted online. Visa fees can also be paid on the website. This service is named E-FRRO.

This change simplifies the Overseas Immigration process. However, the foreign national may have to appear for an interview. They will receive information about the time and date via email/SMS alerts.  Any communication from the FRRO will be sent through the applicant’s online profile. Foreign nationals are required to make payments on time.
