Ontario reopened its Post Graduate stream for overseas students for a very short time on 5 April. This was announced by the Immigrant Nominee Program Ontario in an update on the same day morning. The stream then closed within less than 1 hour.
The Post Graduate Stream is one of the 2 immigration programs offered under the Overseas Students category of Immigrant Nominee Program Ontario. The other stream is for Doctoral graduates who have completed the degree from an eligible academic institution in Ontario, as quoted by the CIC News.
This was an unusual occasion as OINP opened the PG Stream independent of the Doctoral stream. The interesting aspect of the PG stream is that does not mandate a job offer for applying. It is designed to retain the Overseas Students who have graduated from the Ontario province.
Intake limits for this stream are often exhausted quickly. It operates on first served for first arrived basis. It was not revealed by Ontario as to how many applications it received in this intake period. The PG stream had already opened once on January 29, 2018. It has exhausted its intake limit within few hours of opening.
OINP has said that the applicants can look forward to the periodic reopening of this stream in this year. This will be done till the allocation for provincial nomination for Ontario is exhausted. It is expected that Ontario will nominate around 6,600 applicants through its immigration streams in 2018. The province of Ontario in Canada is hugely renowned for overseas students, especially for those inclined to pursue higher studies.
The applicants who receive a Provincial Nomination are able to submit an application for Canada PR with the federal Canadian government.
