Ontario aims to recruit 100 immigrant entrepreneurs in next two years A welcoming news for entrepreneurs by B-Town! Ontario, popularly known as B-Town, invites 100 immigrant entrepreneurs in the next two years. Through the entrepreneurship, the project is expected to generate $20 million for the Ontario economy. The province seeks to invite 100 immigrant entrepreneurs in the next two years to start or grow a business in regions outside of the Greater Toronto Area. Entrepreneur Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Candidates who are interested can apply through the existing Entrepreneur Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The applicants need to:
  • Invest a minimum of $200,000
  • Will receive a provincial nomination once their business has been operating for 18 to 20 months in Ontario
  • Use their nomination to apply to the federal government for Canadian immigration.
The recruitment project in the province is planning to create more opportunities for regions that have been hard-hit by pandemic job losses. This will cost around $6 million to the government. Hence the province, to make up these costs, the province has planned to invite immigrant entrepreneurs. These newcomer entrepreneurs will generate $20 million in business investment to the province and will create jobs.
“As we continue to build back better, we want people across Ontario—no matter where they live to find rewarding, well-paying careers in their communities,” McNaughton said in the release. “Our government is working for workers and spreading the jobs and opportunities that entrepreneurs bring to every corner of our province, not just our big cities.”
Ontario has issued two nominations under this Entrepreneur Stream since it was launched, 2015. This new project will definitely help to connect entrepreneurs worldwide with business opportunities that best fit them. This project will help the government to attract more immigrants to Ontario, as it create more number of job opportunities. In 2021, the province has taken many initiatives to introduce a more streamlined provincial nomination application system. This is easier for internationally trained workers to practice in certain regulated professions. The province is planning for more immigration programs, as per Minister McNaughton. Accordingly, the federal government doubles Ontario’s allocation in 2022 up from the 8,600 immigrants that the province was allowed to nominate in 2021. Till date in 2021, the maple leaf country has invited 313,838 immigrants between January and October 2021, according to the latest available data.
