On July 29, 2020, Ontario held its largest Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] draw of the year under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program [OINP]. 1,288 candidates qualifying for the ONIP’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities [HCP] stream with work experience in any of 6 specified occupations received Notifications of Interest [NOIs].

Those invited had their Comprehensive Ranking System scores between 463 to 477. They will now have 45 calendar days from receiving their NOI to submit their application for provincial nomination with the OINP.

Falling under the OINP’s HCP stream, the purpose of Tech draws held by Ontario is to identify immigration candidates possessing technological skills in the Express Entry pool of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

The OINP searches the federal Express Entry pool of candidates to find candidates that might –

Be meeting the criteria of the Human Capital Priorities Stream
Possess work experience in either 1 of the 6 targeted National Occupational Classification [NOC] codes

Targeted 6 occupations under the ONIP’s Tech draws are –

NOC Codes Description
0213 Computer and information systems managers
2147 Computer engineers [except software engineers and designers]
2172 Database analysts and data administrators
2173 Software engineers and designers
2174 Computer programmers and interactive media developers
2175 Web designers and developers

A Canada immigration pathway under the OINP, Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities [HCP] Stream provides foreign workers – that have the needed education, skilled work experience, and language abilities – to apply for living and working in Ontario permanently. Before an immigration candidate can apply to the Ontario government for a provincial nomination, they will be required to have received a Notification of Interest [NOI] from the OINP. To be eligible to receive an NOI, a valid Express Entry profile will be required. Do keep in mind that for qualifying for the OINP’s HCP stream, a candidate must meet the requirements of either 1 of the economic immigration programs under the federal Express Entry system –

Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP]
Canadian Experience Class [CEC]

On successfully securing a provincial nomination through the OINP, the candidate can then proceed to apply to the federal government of Canada, through IRCC, for Canada PR. Total Notifications of Interest [NOIs] issued by the OINP in 2020 so far
