Norway has now permitted entry into the country for employees of non-profit, religious and humanitarian organizations. The list of third-country nationals that can enter Norway – even with the entry restrictions currently in place – has been expanded by the Norwegian authorities.
The decision in this regard was adopted by the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness on September 1, 2020. Restrictions on entering Norway have been in place since March 2020 in view of the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the increase in COVID-19 cases in various countries, Norway has not been allowing entry into the country to travellers from third countries. This includes entry being denied by Norway even to the nationals of countries that are regarded by the EU Council to be epidemiologically safe.
As of now, certain categories of foreign nationals from countries outside the Schengen Area, EEA or the UK can travel to Norway. Such individuals are –
Those with a work and residence permit in Norway. |
Those with a family or partner in Norway. |
Workers or students possessing technical competence that are exempt from the requirement for a residence permit. |
Employees in non-profit, religious and humanitarian organizations. |
Note.- While the above-mentioned nationals are exempt from the existing travel restrictions and can enter the country, they will be required to self-quarantine for 10 days following their entry into Norway.
Norway follows the “coloured map” system which involves the countries being coloured based on their epidemiological situation and risk levels. Countries marked in red are those with a high infection rate, requiring a quarantine when entering Norway from any of the red-coloured countries.
Nations marked in yellow colour, on the other hand, are those countries that have an increased risk. However, unlike the procedure for red-coloured countries, no quarantine is required when entering Norway from any of the countries that are marked in yellow on the coloured map system.
While the green colour has been allotted to safe countries in view of the coronavirus situation, as of now, no EU/EEA country is coloured in green in the map system followed by Norway.
