Nova Scotia Nominee Program

In its latest draw on May 22, Nova Scotia Nominee Program [NSNP] has sent out invitations to nurses – NOC 3012 – to apply for being provincially nominated by the province for Canada permanent residence.

While details on the eligibility criteria were provided by the NSNP, there is no information as to the total number of candidates invited in the draw.

Registered nurses that had a profile in the federal Express Entry pool were invited by the NSNP through the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream that selects candidates from the federal Express Entry System meeting the labour market requirements of the province.

Only candidates that get a Letter of Interest from the Office of Immigration of the province can apply.

Selection criteria for nurses in May 22 draw

Those selected had to meet the following criteria –

  • Main occupation as a registered psychiatric nurse or registered nurse [NOC 3012]
  • 3 or more years of experience as a registered psychiatric nurse or registered nurse. Letters of reference from employers to be provided.
  • CLB 8 or above in French or English in each of the language abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or completed a 3-years or longer program at a college, university, technical school, etc.

An Educational Credential Assessment [ECA] report also to be included as proof of education.

In 2019, Nova Scotia welcomed a record of 7,580 new permanent residents.

Of the total newcomers to Nova Scotia in 2019, about 67% – that is, 5,090 – were managed through provincial programs.

According to Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab, “We plan, support and invest in immigration and it’s making a positive change in our province.”
