New Netflix location opening in Toronto

On April 27, 2021, streaming giant Netflix announced the opening of their new office in Toronto.

In an official Press release, Mayor John Tory has welcomed Netflix to its “new Canadian home in Toronto”.

The news regarding the same was delivered by Netflix officials to Mayor Tory in a virtual meeting.

Before the latest announcement, Toronto already had one of the two Canadian Production Hubs of Netflix.

Through the hub, talented crews in Toronto have been instrumental in the success of various international productions.

In the past, Netflix has made a significant contribution to the development of the workforce and infrastructure in Toronto.

With the new office in Toronto, Netflix will be expanding its commitment to working with talent in Canada, working alongside Canadian creators to bring stories from Canada onto the international platform.

As per the official Press Release, “As one of the most diverse cities in the world, Toronto is proud of our locally-based, globally-minded talent, and looks forward to being home to Netflix as they support the best creators here, and from every part of Canada.

As the home of mega-stages and mega-stars, with so much talent yet to be discovered, Toronto welcomes the enhanced presence and partnership of Netflix in original content production.

Foreigners coming into Canada for working in the film industry are eligible for an expedited work permit processing.

Work permits for Canada – through the category of TV and Film Production Workers – are exempted from the requirement of getting a Labour Market Impact Assessment [LMIA].

In certain specific cases, individuals seeking entry into Canada for working in the entertainment industry might qualify as business visitors, eligible for a Canada visitor visa.

In the fall of 2020, a facilitative measure was introduced – by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] – allowing film and TV workers that required a temporary resident Visa [TRV] to get their Canada work permits within two weeks.
