The LMIA for hiring overseas workers under Canada Temporary Foreign Worker Program must be filed as soon as possible. The Government of Canada has said that Labour Market Impact Assessment applications must be filed by the employers quickly. This is to avoid aggravating delays, it added.
The processing of LMIA applications for overseas workers has been delayed in recent months. This has prompted the Government to issue an advisory.
The Employment and Social Development Canada published a notice on October 29, as quoted by the CIC News. ESDC has said that TFWP is facing an increased number of applications for LMIA. Thus, the processing times are likely to increase in the months ahead, added ESDC.
The advisory added that all efforts are being made to reduce the effect on employers seeking to hire overseas workers under TFWP. It is thus advised that employers must furnish their application at th earliest to avoid any extra delays.
LMIA confirms that the employer has followed the necessary procedures to hire a worker in Canada. This is for the job for which they intend to hire an overseas worker.
The processing times for LMIA have increased radically in the last few months for the TFWP. This excludes the Global Talent Stream. GTS fast tracks Canada Work Visas for skilled workers in expertise occupations. It has a processing standard of 10 working days.
ESDC is responsible for the TFWP. It has said that technical issues are responsible for the delays. These are related to the transition to the new platform for evaluating the applications for LMIA.
