In the latest H1B Visa update Ministry of External Affairs in India has said that it is closely engaged with the US on the issue. It includes both the US Congress and Trump administration, it added. This is even as the major changes to the visas are being planned by the US.
Raveesh Kumar the MEA Spokesperson said that the Government is in touch with the US administration at the highest level. This was after the US said that it is being planned to alter the definition of employment and expert occupations. It is with respect to H-1B Visas and proposed to be implemented by January 2019.
The move will have adverse consequences for the Indian IT firms in the US, as quoted by the Hindu.
Elaborating on the latest H1B Visa update the MEA Spokesperson said that the issue is very crucial for India. Thus we have discussed it with the US time and again at diverse levels, he added. The last instance was the discussion during the 2+2 talks. The External Affairs and Defense Ministers of India had one to one dialogue on the occasion. This was with the US Secretary of State and Defense Secretary.
Mr. Kumar said that it is true that the US administration has taken initiatives to curb the misuse of the H-1B visas. Certain bills have also been tabled, he added. The references that are being made are actually provisions of these bills, said the Spokesperson. It is crucial to note that not even one of these bills has been endorsed so far, he added.
