Kansas State University is ranked the best value in State

Kansas State University has been ranked as the best value in the state by Smart Asset, a financial analysis company. Several criteria were used by Smart Asset for calculating the education value index of a college.  

With an index of 40.89, Kansas State University was ranked highest on the list of the company. The University of Kansas got 39.88 and was at the 2nd position.  

Smart Asset used the following for calculating the score for K-State: 

•    Retention rate - 84% 

•    Living costs - $13,866  

•    In-state tuition - $9,874 

•    Average starting salary - $51,600 

•    Average scholarships and grants - $5,825 

 K-State had lesser regular scholarships in comparison with KU in Lawrence - $6,552, it surpassed the regular initial salary at KU with $51,500. It also had a lower tuition in-state in comparison with $11,455 at KU.  

The index offers scores to Universities and Colleges and scores them out of 100 versus the top institution this year. This is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. At the national level, KU and K-State are ranked 213 and 193 respectively, as quoted by the Mercury.  

According to Smart Asset, the average tuition for colleges of Kansas was $12,793 in comparison with $15,308 at the national level. Average initial salary was higher countrywide with $50,320 in comparison with $47,218 in Kansas.

•    Fort Hays State University, 27.57 KS index, No. 579 nationally, # 6  

•    MidAmerica Nazarene University, 25.68 KS index, No. 648 nationally, # 7  

•    Baker University, 25.01 KS index, No. 374 nationally, # 8 

•    Southwestern University, 24.21 KS index, No. 697 nationally, # 9 

•    Emporia State University, 23.71 KS index, No. 706 nationally, # 10
