Indian travelers apply for visas electronically through VFS Global.

Indians willing to visit Japan can apply for eVisas through VFS Global starting April 1, 2024. Indian citizens and foreign nationals settled in India are eligible for Japan eVisa. This eVisa offers a short-term stay of up to 90 days in Japan and is for tourism purposes. Applicants obtain an electronic visa instead of receiving a visa sticker attached to their passports. During airport check-in, individuals visiting Japan must display a “visa issuance notice” on their phone.

 

What is a “visa issuance notice.”

Japan eVisa involves a “visa issuance notice” with a 2D barcode that the travelers must provide upon arrival at the airport. This notice has to be submitted in digital format on your phone and cannot be submitted in any other format, such as a screenshot, photo, PDF, or printed copy.

 

Steps to display “visa issuance notice.”

• Step 1: Submit a “visa issuance notice” on your phone when checking in at the airport. The travel agency will issue a "Visa Issuance Notice" (printed) with a 2D barcode.
• Step 2: Scan the 2D barcode with your phone and enter the required information to display the notice.
• Step 3: After entering all the details, tap “Display. “The electronic "visa issuance notice" will appear on your phone. Also, the countdown timer will be shown at the top right, proving your notice is valid.
