A few current and former Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders may become eligible for an 18-month Open Work Permit from April 6, 2023. One can apply for the Open Work Permit till December 31, 2023.
The Open Work Permit will benefit the candidates in many ways, including their ability to work for any employer and any occupation they choose in the country for 18 additional months.
According to the IRCC’s website, the eligible candidates are entitled to be able to:

Usually, PGWPs are not renewable, but Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced that the PGWP holders will get a new Open Work Permit.
The minister also said that this special public policy is intended to help Canadian employers by addressing the ongoing labor shortages.
While announcing this policy, IRCC said there were more than 286,000 PGWP holders in the country at the end of 2022.
As per the estimates of the immigration department, about 127,000 PGWPs will expire in 2023. And about 67,000 PGWP holders have applied for PR already.
