Ireland is placed among the top three countries in the world for its quality of life according to the latest United Nations report on human development. The country is place behind Norway and Switzerland which took the first and second places respectively.
The report is based on the study of 189 countries across the world. The ranking was based on parameters such as average level of education of citizens, life expectancy, education, income and the Human Development Index value of each country’s citizens.
The Human Development Index or HDI is ranked on a scale from 0 to 1.0, with 1.0 being the highest rank for human development.
The report breaks down the HDI into four tiers:
Ireland with its ranking at 0.94 is placed among the category of countries with stable governments, good education and healthcare facilities, high life expectancy and growing economies.
According to the UN report here is the list of top ten countries ranked based on quality of life.
The report mentioned Ireland’s Human Development Index at 0.942 and the life expectancy of its citizens at 82 years as reasons for this high ranking.
In terms of education, Irish citizens are well educated with most citizens completing 12 years of schooling. Its gross national income is estimated to be above 55,500 pounds.
Ireland was ranked above favorites like Canada and Australia. It was placed fourth in the 2018 United Nations report on Human Development. The country has steadily progressed in the UN ranking by moving up by 13 places between 2012 to 2017.
