New Permanent Residents of Canada In 2023

India has ranked No. 1 among Canada's Top 10 Source Countries of New PRs in 2023. The Canadian population grew by 18.2%, from 118,245 the previous year to 139,775 newcomers in 2023. China is second on the list of the Top 10 Source Countries. Last year, in 2023, the contribution of Asian countries to the Canadian demographic was 31,780 new permanent residents. Afghanistan slipped from fourth to third position, and the Philippines spiked from fourth to third position by 22%.

 

The African country of Nigeria provided 17,455 new permanent residents to Canada last year and came fifth on the list. Pakistan’s contribution was almost the same last year as in 2022 to Canadian population growth, increasing by 2.2% from 11,600 in the previous year to 11,860 in 2023.

Cameroon Provided More Than 80% New Permanent Residents to Canada.

The central African country, Cameroon, on the Gulf of Guinea on the continent’s west coast, was the biggest surprise. 86.5% of new permanent residents came from Cameroon to Canada last year. Cameroon came to seventh position on the list.

 

In the eighth spot on the list is Iran, with 10,680 new PRs in 2023. Eritrea provided more new permanent residents to Canada in 2023 and came to ninth position. In 2023, 10,640 Americans became new PRs of Canada in 2023 from 10,415 the previous year.
