Around 51 automatic immigration channels have been installed by the immigration authorities in Hong Kong at Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. This will assist in making crossings at HZMB faster and enhance convenience for residents and visitors.
The new e-channels are a part of the upgrading of over 100 automatic channels for clearance on the adjoining SAR border checkpoints. This includes around 53 e-channels that are set up at the West Kowloon Station terminus. It is for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link.
The cost of the individual e-channel machine is estimated at $ 22, 994. The entire upgrading is said to have incurred an expenditure of 18 million HK$. The latest channels are in a position to sustain more flexible deployment and faster maintenance, as quoted by the Macau Business.
The automatic immigration channels for clearance can be used for processing both travellers and local residents. These also permit officers to accelerate immigration clearance and offer more flexibility.
Typically, 69, 000 individuals crossed the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge everyday during 24 November and 23 December. This totals to 2.07 million and an increase of 1.5% from the average of 68,000 per day in the first month of operation.
The HZMB was opened on 24 October 2018 and resulted in a rise of 15.3% year-on-year visitors to Macau to around 3.26 million in November. Around 436, 660 individuals travelled to Macau via HZMB in this month.
