Europe

The EU countries are the most attractive destinations for Overseas Immigrants. Be it for the culture or scenic sights or high living standard, they never fail to gain attention. However, if Overseas Immigrants are planning to settle and work, the situation is slightly different. The most important aspects to know of before migrating to EU are -

  • Workers’ rights
  • Visa
  • Languages
  • Lifestyle

Workers’ rights

The EU countries have strict rules and regulations on workers’ rights. They are bound to provide at least 20 days of paid holiday. Also, women get 14 weeks of paid maternity leave. The EU also holds a high standard of health and safety regulations across all the nations.

The EU has made sure that part-time workers have access to the same rights. According to The London Economic, there is no discrimination based on gender, sexuality and religious beliefs.

Visa

Most EU nations are part of the Schengen agreement. Overseas Immigrants can use Schengen Visa to move around the countries. However, to get the Visa, they need to plan well in advance.

However, the Schengen Visa is not for workers. They should use the 90-day period to look for jobs. They should prepare to acquire the European Blue Card or a Work Permit.

Overseas Immigrants with work experience should aim for the European Blue Card. It’s apt for those holding a job offer. However, if they do not have an offer, they need to spend a lot of time job hunting. Also, they should keep some savings aside to pay for accommodation and bills.

Languages

Overseas Immigrants moving to the UK should not have a problem if they speak English. However, places like Germany and Luxembourg are home to multilingual people. Overseas Immigrants settling in one of those locations might have to face a challenge at work. The reliance on a new language depends largely on the field they plan to work in.

The EU countries tend to give priority to people who speak the language of the country. However, if Overseas Immigrants choose to work in hospitality or childcare, they can get by without knowing the language. It is advisable to learn at least one of the local languages before migrating to the EU countries though.

Lifestyle

The EU countries offer diverse culture. Spain is renowned for its relaxed lifestyle. On the other hand, Germany offers a fast-paced one. Overseas Immigrants should research a lot on the preferred lifestyle. Working experience in any of the countries would bring great exposure. But one must be familiar with the lifestyle of the destination before packing their bags.
