Germany has been facing a considerable shortage of foreign workers, especially in sectors like IT, technology, logistics, and medical care. A greater number of employers are looking for opportunities in these sectors. Therefore, to meet this challenge, the German parliament passed Skilled Worker Immigration on Nov, 2023. This Skilled Worker immigration act has increased the speed of opportunities for skilled workers and has made many changes to the EU Blue card.
The new Skilled Immigration Act introduces flexible provisions. Candidates who are taking training for 3 years in Germany to get a German qualification are now eligible for a work permit. This advantage is given to both students and trainees, giving more importance to work-study arrangements. Skilled workers can bring their family members, majorly considering spouses, small children, or parents.
From June 2024, an “Opportunity card” based point system will be introduced for individuals having foreign qualifications. This will allow them to stay in Germany for 1 year to search for employment opportunities.
