Data reveals increased first-time residence permit applications from international students who wish to study in Finland. These applications are now processed within 30 days, which is faster compared to the 38 days in 2023. The Finnish Immigration Service released statistics that show a total of 9,293 residence permit applications were submitted by the end of July 2024. Around 8,159 applications were processed, with 96% of students receiving resident permits in just 30 days.

According to the Finnish Immigration Service, students from five countries sent in the largest number of residence permit applications.
The list of the top five countries that registered the most number of student applications are as follows:
Students generally apply for their first residence permit from their native country after finalizing their study location and moving to Finland. This mainly comprises non-EU citizens.
