Highlights: February remained the same in context to Employment in Canada

  • The unemployment rate in Canada was 5.0% in February.
  • February witnessed an increase of 22,000 in employment growth.
  • Employment among women has increased by 30,000.
  • Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services industry saw the biggest growth in employment, with 84,000.
  • New Brunswick recorded the highest employment growth, with 5,100.

According to the recent Labour Force Survey of Statistics Canada, employment in the country remained the same (+22,000; +0.1%). In December 2022 and January 2023, the country saw increased employment in Canada.

The unemployment rate also remained the same at 5.0% in the month of February. Employment remained primarily unchanged between the age groups of 25-54 years old.

Employment in women

Employment among women has increased by 30,000 (+1.9%) between the 55-64 age groups in the month of February. More than 6 in every 10 women in this age group were employed. Also, 58.9% of women aged 15 and above were employed.
