E-Tourist Visa Facility for Malaysian Tourists Visiting India

Subscribers to the e-Tourist Visas have increased appreciably, ever since the visa scheme was launched at most Indian airports. A growing number of travellers who are availing this facility are of Malaysian nationality. At present, there is direct flight connectivity between India and regions of South-East, selective South and West Asian routes. Since its reintroduction on Aug 15th, 2015, at international airports such as Tiruchirapalli and a couple of non-metro cities, close to 2,400 foreign travellers have availed this facility.

Close to 1,600 foreign nationals have utilized this facility at the Tiruchi airport since the past 5 and half months; with 300+ overseas citizens using this facility at the Tiruchi airport every month starting February, say airport officials. In a move to boost tourism in India, the government had introduced this facility at Tiruchi and six other non-metro international airports. Singaporean nationals ranked second after Malaysia, followed by Sri Lankan citizens in the third and Australian nationals at the fourth spot. Travellers from countries such as France, the UK and far-off countries such as St. Kitts Island have also availed this facility at the Tiruchi airport.

International travellers across 150 countries – UK, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Malaysia, Seychelles, Sweden, the Netherlands, etc. – can use this facility to enter the country with an e-Visa printout, without having to wait for a Tourist Visa stamping. The system allows travellers to apply for a traveller visa online, a few days prior to their departure. Upon approval of the visa, they can take a print out of the authorization for an e-Tourist Visa that is generated online. Travellers are allowed to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days from the date of their arrival.

Post arrival, travellers would be required to undergo a biometric scan at dedicated immigration counters at the Tiruchi airport. This service can be utilized by foreign travellers only twice a year. Tourists availing this facility usually flew with airlines like Air Asia and Malindo Air flights.
