Income hike on migrating abroad

According to recent reports by the World Bank titled 'Migrants, Refugees and Societies,' Indians who migrated abroad for work experienced more than 100% surge in their earnings. Studies show that an Indian worker working in their homeland would need around 20 years to increase their income to that level. This is one of the major reasons why the immigration rate is so high among Indians.

One of the main reasons for such a high surge in income rates while migrating abroad is the wage gap between the country of origin and the destination country of immigrants. Indians who work abroad have experienced an average hike of 118% in their income levels, while immigrants from Ghana and Bangladesh experience around 153% and 210% rises in their income, respectively. Reports reveal that countries like Canada and Germany offer higher wages than Mexico or the Philippines.

Increase in income among skilled workers

Both high skilled and low-skilled workers experience a high rise in their income levels if the migrate and work abroad. Although the increase in income is higher for high-skilled workers, low-skilled workers who move to the US experience around a 493% increase in their income. The highest surge in income levels is noticed among immigrants from Nigeria and Yemen, who experience about a 1500% hike.

Indian low-skilled workers who move to the Gulf countries like Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, or Saudi Arabia experience an increase of 118% in their income level, while immigrants in the UAE enjoy around 298% hike. Reports show that 85% of earnings by Indian Immigrants in the UAE are sent to India. Immigrants who migrate from a low-income country to a high-income country are likely to experience the highest surge in income levels.
