Canada conducted the largest Express Entry draw since January on 10th July issuing 3,600 invitations. The cut-off score in this draw was 460 which was 2 points lesser than the last draw held on 26th June.

Canada has set higher immigration targets for 2019 and 2020 and the larger draw size certainly reflects that. Admission targets have been increased for all 3 Canadian economic immigration programs:

  1. FSWP (Federal Skilled Worker Program)
  2. FSTP (Federal Skilled Trades Program)
  3. CEC (Canadian Experience Class)

The Express Entry program also manages a portion of the Provincial Nominee Programs. The admission targets for the PNPs have also been raised for 2019 and 2020.

So far, IRCC has issued 45,400 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in 2019. This means that it is already half-way through surpassing the total number of ITAs issued in 2018. The IRCC had issued a record 89,800 Invitations to Apply in 2018.

Each of the 10 draws held after 30th January, has issued 3,350 ITAs. The 10th July draw saw an increase of 250 ITAs.

The drop in the CRS score can also be attributed to the large draw size and also to the fact that there was just a 2-week gap with the last draw.

In fact, all the last 3 draws had a 2-week gap between them. Hence, the CRS continued to drop with each draw from 465 to 462 and now 460, as quoted by CIC News.

In contrast, the CRS had shot up to 470 in the 29th May draw as there was a month-long gap between the last draw.

The tie-break rule was utilized by the IRCC in the 10th July draw. The date and time used were 11th June 2019 at 12:27:18 UTC. This means that all the candidates with a score of 460 or above who has entered the pool before this time were issued invitations.
