New Fund Rules for Canada’s FSWP and FSTP: How Much You’ll Need to immigrate in 2025

As of July 7, 2025, Canada has raised the proof of funds required for applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). This increase aims to ensure that newcomers have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and their families upon arrival in Canada.

Who Is Exempt from Providing Proof of Funds for Canada’s Express Entry Programs?

While most applicants need to show proof of funds when applying for permanent residency through Canada’s Express Entry, there are some exceptions.
 

If you fall into one of the following categories, you will not need to provide proof of funds:
 

• Job Offer Holders: If you already have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, you are considered financially self-sufficient. As a result, you are exempt from the proof of funds requirement. This exemption helps skilled workers already contributing to Canada's economy.
• Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Applicants: If you are applying through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and have been nominated by a Canadian province, you may also be exempt from showing financial resources. Provinces with specific immigration criteria may waive the proof of funds requirement, particularly for those with a job offer or strong regional ties.
• Refugees and Humanitarian Applicants: Individuals applying under refugee status or humanitarian and compassionate grounds do not need to provide proof of funds. These applicants are evaluated based on different criteria, focusing on humanitarian needs rather than financial readiness.
