In Express Entry Draw #167 held on November 18, 2020, Canada has invited a record 5,000 immigration candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC], the date and time of the round was November 18, 2020 at 15:27:32 UTC.

This is the highest number of invitations to apply [ITAs] issued in any of the Express Entry draws held in 2020 so far.

As no program had been specified for the draw, candidates under any of following programs were eligible for receiving invitations –

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP]
  • Federal Skilled Trades People [FSTP]
  • Canadian Experience Class [CEC]
  • Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] Express Entry linked streams only

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score required was 472.

As a tie-breaking rule – of October 27, 2020 at 06:18:11 UTC – was applied, if more than one candidate had the lowest score required, that is CRS 472, the cut-off in that situation would be “based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles”.

Put simply, Express Entry profiles that had been created at a comparatively earlier date gain precedence over those submitted at a later date. The tie-breaking rule is only applicable to profiles with the specific CRS requirement as per the individual draw.

As per official IRCC data, as on November 16, 2020, there were a total of 146,965 profiles in the Express Entry pool. Of these, 27,172 Express Entry profiles were in the CRS 451-500 range. While another 348 profiles were in CRS 601-1200 range, there were 345 profiles with their CRS score range as 501-600.

On October 30, 2020, Canada announced one of the highest levels of immigration in Canadian history. As per the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada plans on welcoming over 4 lakh newcomers a year.

With the latest Express Entry draw – the 34th Express Entry draw in 2020 – a total of 92,350 ITAs have been issued so far this year.
