The total number of job vacancies (633,400) in October remained unchanged from September. The public administration, utilities, and finance and insurance sectors also saw a rise in job vacancies. There were 1.9 unemployed people for every vacant position, which is an increase from 1.3 in March and April.
In the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours, employees receiving benefits and pay from their employer known as payroll employment saw an increase of 36,200 (+0.2%) in September. Additionally, number of job vacancies from September remained unchanged.

Payroll employment saw a rise in manufacturing sector in Quebec. Healthcare and social assistance saw a rise for the third time consecutively.
Payroll employment in public administration continued to increase for the fourth consecutive month increasing the overall gain in sector to 27,000. Biggest monthly gains were seen in provincial and territorial public administration, and federal government public administration.

An increase in the average weekly wages is seen on various factors such as duration worked, job composition, and wage changes. Average weekly wages ($1,222) showed little changes month over month for the third consecutive time. Wages for construction and other services increased to $1,522 and $1,053.

Many sectors in October saw an increase in the number job vacancies. There were 1.9 unemployed people for every available position, which is an increase from 1.3 in March and April but essentially steady from September.
There was a minimal change in job vacancies in the health care and social assistance sector (130,200) and witnessed the highest job vacancy rate of 5.3%. Job vacancy rate in the finance and insurance sector increased to 2.6% in October.

In October, the job vacancies in Quebec saw an increase to 151,100 and 108,600 in the British Columbia with the job vacancy rate of 4.3% and the lowest was seen in Newfoundland and Labrador of 3.0%.
