1st July is the beginning of the new financial year in Australia. This year it announced the changes for three types of visas which will offer easy pathways to temporary residents to apply for the Australia PR.
If you are willing to migrate to Australia in this financial year 2022-23, or if you are an immigrant in Australia looking for PR, then you can make use of these paths to get settled.
Here are the key changes in the three visas:
According to the new reforms, an easy pathway for Australia PR was introduced by the government for the Temporary skill shortage (TSS) subclass 482 visa holders. Till 31 March 2022, there are more than 52,000 candidates under the subclass 482 and subclass 457 visas, which ceased the hope of applying for Australian PR. But as per the new rules from July 1, 2022, these visa holders can apply for a Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) visa.
Applying for a further visa will allow them to work and live permanently in Australia if their employers nominate them. Eligibility criteria To get eligible, candidates should have a valid subclass 482 or 457 visas in the last two years.
Candidates who resided in Australia from February 1, 2020, to December 14, 2021, can apply for this visa.
The subclass 457 visa holders who are under STSOL - Short-term Skilled Occupation List can apply for this stream. Changes made in 485 Subclass Temporary Graduate Visa The changes made to the 485 Subclass Temporary Graduate Visa are the most important update for immigrants under willing to migrate under this visa type.
Objective: Aim of this visa is to support the candidates who have lost their approval due to the restrictions imposed because of the COVID pandemic. So, the government allows these candidates to apply for a replacement visa. Candidates holding the temporary graduate visa expired on or after 1st February 2020 can apply for this visa. Candidates should be outside Australia between February 1, 2020, and December 15, 2021.
As per the records, there are nearly 30,000 candidates who have these visas. Their visa time will be extended based on the qualification and stream, and details are given below:
Stream | Qualification | Length of stay |
Graduate Work | Any | 18 months* |
