Australia Skill Select update for January 2020

Australia Skill Select update

Australia has released the results of the first Skill Select round of 2020 held on 11th January. Australia issued 1300 invitations- 1000 under the Subclass 189 and the rest under the Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Family-sponsored) Visa.

The minimum required score in the latest Skill Select round dropped marginally to 90 points. The latest Subclass 189 EOI to be invited was lodged in early October 2019.

High demand for some occupations caused invitations to be issued on a pro-rata basis. Invitations are first given under for the Subclass 189. If there are visa places left, the remaining are issued under the Subclass 491 Visa.

The major winners of the latest Skill Select round were Software and Application Programmers. This occupation took away 298 invitations, including both Subclass 189 and Subclass 491. 53% of all the invitations were taken by the top 5 occupations alone.

The occupations to get the most number of invitations were:

  • Software and Application Programmers: 298
  • Database and Systems Administrators: 121
  • ICT Security Specialists: 121
  • Accountants: 98
  • ICT Business and Systems Analysts: 93
  • Civil Engineering Professionals: 76

Occupations with a low number of invitations were:

  • Cartographers/ Surveyors: 4
  • Construction Managers: 3 to 4
  • Management Consultants: 3
  • Medical Imaging Professionals: 1 to 2
