Australia has cautioned against tougher UK visa regime post-Brexit as officials in Canberra have said that this will impact trade deal between the UK and Australia. Any post-Brexit trade deal between Australia and the UK will be affected if the UK visa regime is made stringent, explained the officials.
The warning from Australia for tougher UK Visa regime comes even as Theresa May is enhancing her efforts to create the Global UK. Individuals often immigrate to the UK through the Tier 2 visa that permits them to work for an employer in the UK having the sponsorship license for Tier 2 visas.
On the other hand, it had been recently reported that more than 85% of the firms in the UK find that the Tier 2 visa process is arduous. Theresa May is seeking to build a Global UK after the nation exits from the EU. This involves aggressively and quickly striking trade deals with other nations such as India and Australia. However, it simultaneously seeks to curb the number of immigrants to the UK.
The Financial Times recently published a report regarding concerns over the self-proclaimed policy of Global UK by Theresa May. Australia and India have now demanded that the UK must have a liberal visa regime elaborated the report.
The treatment of immigrants in the UK has become controversial after the 2016 Brexit referendum, including for those from Commonwealth nations. This issue is expected to become a crisis in early autumn when it is expected that the UK will outline its immigration strategy for post-Brexit.
Business groups in the UK that include the Confederation of British Industry are in favor of preferential treatment for workers from EU for access to the labor market in the UK.
