Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has added 3 more occupations to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List, with the aim of “supporting Australia’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout through skilled migration”.
As per an official Media Release [dated July 27, 2021], Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke “announced the inclusion of pharmacists on the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL)”.

Earlier, 22 occupations had been added to the PMSOL on June 22, 2021.
Australia immigration is expected to see a post-pandemic boom.
With the latest addition of 3 occupations, the total number of occupations on the PMSOL comes to 44. Priority visa processing will be given to occupations on the PMSOL.
Jointly developed by 3 organizations — the Department of Education and Training, Statistics New Zealand, and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) — the ANZSCO is a skill-based classification used to classify all occupations available in the Australian and New Zealand labour markets.
| The ANZSCO Code is taken into consideration for the purposes of Australia skilled visa programs. The ANZSCO is the standard against which a visa applicant’s skills for undertaking a specific nominated skilled occupation in Australia are assessed. |
According to Minister Hawke, “the Morrison Government will support pharmacies across Australia, including through skilled migration, as supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses increases over the coming weeks”.
| As per the Media Release, “Existing skilled migration occupation lists remain active, and all skilled migrants are subject to quarantine arrangements at their own expense.” |
