Countries are adjusting immigration laws in order to attract highly skilled workforce. According to 2023 Global Talent Competitiveness Index by Insead, Switzerland has topped based on its capacity to draw and retain talent. Singapore and the United States topped on three positions on the list which was dominated by European countries.

Canada's PR path for techies, known as the Tech Talent Strategy, includes a new innovation stream under the International Mobility Program, enhancing the start-up visa program by extending it to three years, allowing applicants to apply for open work visas and obtain work permits, and increase in visas for Digital Nomads.
Canada also extended its assistance to H-1B visa holders living in the US by providing work permits, surpassing 10,000 applications in a day.

Germany has made the entrance rules easy for non-EU nationals, especially for those with the necessary skills.
The nation has introduced ‘Opportunity card’ and aims to attract skilled Indian IT workers through its associated points system by simplifying visa procedures and easing regulations. The card allows foreign nationals with university degrees to visit Germany for a year to look for employment.

Starting from spring 2024, a higher income threshold of £38,700, which is nearly 50% higher than the existing wage will be required to receive a job offer. The Global Talent Visa, which is designed to attract top talent in academia, research, arts, and technology, has received only three applications since its launch. The government also plans to increase the minimum income level for family visas to £29,000 in 2024, with further increase leading to the proposed £38,700 by early 2025.

Australia plans to reduce its immigration intake by 50% over the next two years, focusing on stricter visa requirements for low-skilled workers and international students. The changes include enhanced screening for second visa applications and higher English proficiency exam scores.
Additionally, Australia introduces the "Skills in Demand" visa which will replace the Temporary Talent Shortage (Subclass 482) visa, and offers pathways for specialized talents, core skills, and vital skills. The visa is valid for 4 year period and provides clear path to permanent residency, aligning with Australia's goal to fill skill gaps and enhance worker mobility.
