The arduous journey of being a US illegal immigrant has been revealed by a 21 years old Haryana youth Gurkripa Singh (name changed). He is one among the group of 7-8 youth from his hometown Ambala in Haryana, India. These have arrived illegally to the US as immigrants and had to stay in prison for a month.
Gurkripa Singh said that it took around 2 months and over 60,000$ (more than 40 lakh) to arrive as US illegal immigrant. He is also not in the best of health having lost several kilos weight in this arduous journey. Singh said that his group consisted of 7 other Indians of his age, as quoted by the Economic Times. They first arrived at Oregon this summer from Punjab, he added.
The group was transported via several modes of transportation from Mexico to Texas at southern US border. They were abandoned here by the local agent. The group discarded their mobiles and passports and jumped off a 5 feet wall. We were immediately arrested here said, Singh.
My petition for obtaining political asylum is yet to be approved said, Gurkripa Singh. This process can take even several years.
In case of denial of the asylum petition, Singh faces deportation to India. In case the asylum is approved, still, the policy of Indian government does not approve visas for those with political asylum. This would make it almost impossible for Singh to return to his nation of birth. These youth have sent Whatsapp videos to PTI that describes their arduous journey as a US illegal immigrant. Some of these are really heartrending.
