India has clarified that a large percentage of the firms in the US are being benefited by utilizing the services of the IT firms in India while only 17% of the 85,000 H1-B Visas offered annually are availed by the Indian IT firms. This was informed by Aruna Sundararajan Information Technology Secretary of Government of India, as quoted by NDTV.
Ms. Sundararajan was speaking at the Broadband India Forum’s inaugural session being held in New Delhi. The fact that only 17% of the total H1-B visas offered annually are availed by the IT firms in India must give a clear message that the visas are not being overused by Indian IT firms, added the Information Technology Secretary.
The IT Secretary elaborated on the emerging scenario for the IT sector and said that IT professionals are transitioning from one vertical to another with the updating of technology. She elaborated that the IT firms have clarified that the projections for this year for the IT sector are not much different from the previous years. Contracts are not being renewed with some professionals as a part of the annual appraisals, added Ms. Sundararajan.
Ms. Sundararajan further elaborated that technology gets constantly updated in diverse ways such as cloud, big data, cyber security, digital payments and so on. The number of new enterprises is also increasing and it is a usual thing that professionals shift from one sector to another, explained the IT Secretary.
However, the IT Secretary refused to accept that there were any reports that indicate mass scale reduction of jobs in the IT sector.
