Alberta Releases Details of the Latest AINP Draw, 150 Invited

Alberta province in Canada is one of the three Prairie Provinces, the other two being Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Neighbours of Alberta are – Northwest Territories (in the North), Saskatchewan (in the East), US state of Montana (in the south), and British Columbia (in the west).

On December 14, 2021, Alberta invited 150 to submit their application for a nomination by the province for permanent residence in Canada. Alberta is a part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program, commonly referred to as Canadian PNP.

Alberta PNP is officially referred to as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). Invitations issued by the AINP are called Notification of Interest (NOI) letters.

Note. CRS: Comprehensive Ranking System, a 1,200-point matrix used to rank profiles while in the Express Entry pool.

As part of Alberta’s Express Entry Stream selections, Alberta PNP regularly goes through the federal Express Entry pool that is managed through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Based on the profile information submitted by the Express Entry candidates, Alberta PNP then selects candidates from the pool, inviting them to submit a completed application to the AINP.

Alberta PNP is an economic program. Hence, Alberta nominates those Express Entry candidates that have the potential to help meet the requirements of the province with regards to workers and entrepreneurs. The kind of skilled workers and entrepreneurs targeted by Alberta might change in keeping with the changes in the economy of the province. The government of Alberta nominates individuals for Canadian permanent residence, provided they have the intention of settling within Alberta as permanent residents. The final decision as to who is to be granted permanent residence lies with the federal government of Canada.

Am I eligible for Alberta Express Entry Stream?

To be considered by Alberta PNP for being issued an NOI letter, you must have –

  • An Express Entry profile in the IRCC pool,
  • Stated an interest in Alberta immigration,
  • A minimum of CRS 300 as your ranking score in the IRCC pool, and
  • Your primary occupation in IRCC Express Entry profile is one that supports the economic development and diversification of Alberta.

Certain factors can further increase your chances of being invited by Alberta PNP. These include – (1) having graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution, (2) a job offer in Alberta, (3) French as your first language, and (4) a parent/child/brother/sister that is either a Canadian citizen/PR living in Alberta.

By ‘CRS’ is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System. Of the maximum 1,200 CRS points available, CRS 600 can be got as ‘additional’ points through a PNP nomination.

An Express Entry candidate that is nominated by Alberta PNP – under the Alberta Express Entry Stream selections – will automatically be allotted CRS 600 points.

How many Nomination Certificates were issued by Alberta in 2021?

For 2021, IRCC had provided an annual allocation of 6,250 Nomination certificates to Alberta PNP. All 6,250 nominations had been issued by the AINP in 2021.
