Alberta conducted the latest draws on 22nd January and 29th January. The 22nd January draw invited 201 Express Entry candidates with a CRS score of 350 or more. 150 Express Entry candidates with CRS score of 300 or more received invitations in the 29th January draw.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program used the Alberta Express Entry Stream to select candidates from the Express Entry Pool who can support the labour market needs of Alberta. Invited candidates can apply for a provincial nomination which gets them an additional 600 points on their CRS score.

The main advantage of the Alberta Express Entry Stream is that it invites candidates who have very low CRS scores. The latest Express Entry draw held on 5th February had a cut-off score of 472. Such a high cut-off score means that low-scoring candidates have no chance of getting an invitation for Canadian Permanent Residency. This is where the Alberta Express Entry Stream becomes advantageous to skilled workers who have low CRS scores.

There is no specific list of eligible occupations for the Alberta Express Entry Stream. To be considered for an invitation, you must have work experience in an occupation that supports the economic development and diversification priorities of Alberta.

You do not need to have a job offer to be considered for an invite under the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

The AINP, however, gives more importance to candidates who:

  • Have previous work experience in Alberta or who currently have a job offer from Alberta
  • Have completed their higher education from Canada and have a job offer from Alberta
  • Already have a parent, sibling or child living in Alberta

Alberta has issued 501 invitations to Express Entry candidates in the month of January alone.
