Alberta invites 159 EE candidates in latest AINP draw

The details of the latest provincial draw by Alberta have been released.

On February 16, 2021, a total of 159 Express Entry candidates – eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream – have been invited by the Alberta Immigrant Nomine Program [AINP] to apply for a nomination through the province.

This is the fourth AINP draw to be held in 2021. With this, a total of 509 invitations have been issued by the AINP so far this year.

In order to receive an invitation by the AINP under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, the candidate must have an active Express Entry profile with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

In the latest AINP draw, Express Entry candidates that received an invitation were required to have their ranking score of 352 as per the Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS], that is, a CRS 352.

They must also have expressed their interest – through an Expression of Interest [EOI] profile – in settling within Alberta when granted their Canadian permanent residence.

Alberta is one of the 9 provinces and 2 territories that are a part of the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada.

Express Entry candidates that are successful in securing a nomination through the PNP are guaranteed an invitation from IRCC in the next federal Express Entry draw to be held.

It is the highest-ranked candidates that receive invitations to apply in the federal draws that are held by the Canadian government.

A PNP nomination in itself fetches 600 ranking points – as per the Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] – for an Express Entry candidate.

Example: An Express Entry candidate with a low CRS of 300 secures a PNP nomination. Now, with the ‘additional’ points added, their score becomes CRS 900 [300 for human capital factors + 600 for PNP nomination].

For 2020, the AINP had an allocation of 6,250. However, Alberta reduced their allocation to 4,000 due to the pandemic situation.

As the target of 4,000 nominations were met by June 2020, no AINP draws were held in the second half of the year.

The provincial nomination allocation for Alberta for 2021 has not been disclosed as yet.
