Canadian survey on business conditions and job openings across various fields

Recent findings from the Canadian Survey on Business Conditions for Q4 2023 show businesses are facing difficulty in finding skilled employees.  

 

Job openings in the health professions and in the fields of law, education, government services, and social, and community remained unchanged.

 

The number of job openings for many categories in the health occupations has been occupied but there were more openings for registered psychiatric nurses and registered nurses which is about 9.8%.

 

After reaching a record high of 182,300 in the Q2 of 2022, the number of job openings in trades, transport and equipment operators, and similar occupations fell to 134,200 in the Q3 of 2023, which indicates the workers filling labour shortages.

Increase in the wages in Canada

The average hourly wage being offered has been increased by 5.8% which is $25.60 year over year in Q3 of 2023. The survey from labour force shows that the year over year hourly wages increased by 5.0% in the third quarter of 2023. Occupations like general agricultural laborers increased by 10.5% and welders by 8.7% had the highest yearly growth rates

 

Average hourly income for high school diploma or less increased by 5.2% to $20.40, while for jobs requiring a bachelor's degree, it remained stable at $39.95.
