2 Persons of Indian Origin have been indicted by US Court in drug and US Visa fraud charges. They are among the 9 indicted in this case. South Carolina, Orangeburg’s Saurabh Kumar Patel faces charges of conspiracy. Kentucky, Newport’s Tarang Patel faces US Visa fraud and conspiracy charges.

The two have been indicted along with 7 officers for Law enforcement. They have been indicted in South Carolina’s federal court on drug and US Visa fraud charges. Both of them face a maximum punishment of imprisonment for 10 years. This is if they are convicted.

One of the alleged schemes in the indictment pertains to involvement in fraud Non-immigrant U -Visas. These are reserved for specific crime victims. They would have suffered physical or mental abuse due to the crime.

A Law enforcement officer has to certify that the alien is helping the law enforcement agency. It is with regards to the prosecution or investigation of the crime in which the alien was victimized. This is for the overseas national to get the U-Visa, as quoted by the New Indian Express.

The indictment states that 4 officers assisted the individuals to obtain the U-Visas in fraudulent ways. This is by accepting bribes for fake certifications and creating fake incident reports. This is to indicate that the aliens were victimized by the crimes. The officers are also indicted for accepting bribes to protect cocaine and methamphetamine.

The law officers charged in the indictment are:

•    Lacra Sharod Jenkins - Police Department Chief, Springfield

•    Allan Hunter - Police Department Officer, Springfield

•    Carolyn Colter Franklin- Office Deputy, Orangeburg County Sheriff

•    Nathaniel Miller Shazier - Office Deputy, Orangeburg County Sheriff

•    Stanley Lavalle Timmons - Office Deputy, Orangeburg County Sheriff

•    James Albert Tucker - Office Reserve Deputy, Orangeburg County Sheriff
