According to data from Statistics Canada, temporary residents in Canada can integrate into the labor force easily as they have established their roots in their communities.
The below table shows the number of permanent resident transitions from temporary residents:
Name of the program | Number of transitions |
International Mobility Program | 97,665 (including 52,725 Post-Graduation Work Permits) |
Temporary Foreign Worker Program | 7,555 |
Study Permit Holders | 19,730 |
There are many economic immigration programs in Canada that reward candidates with Canadian experience. For instance, under the Express Entry application management system, candidates with Canadian work or study experience are awarded additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Also, there are some regional economic immigration program pathways like the Atlantic Immigration Program or the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot. Additionally, there are several programs that target specific labor shortages, such as caregiver pathways.
