Canada is the most popular country for immigration. More than 90% of individuals that had migrated to Canada in the recent past found their communities to be welcoming.
Now, there are many different ways for an individual to immigrate to Canada. The ideal route for an individual will be as per their individual circumstances. A skilled worker can take up work overseas in Canada, acquire Canadian work experience and apply for permanent residence from within the country.
Similarly, an international student might decide to study abroad in any of the Designated Learning Institutions in Canada. After successfully completing their study program in Canada, the international student might decide to stay back in the country under the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Canadian PGWP is issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) based on the length of the study program. A PGWP can be for a minimum of 8 months to up to a total of 3 years.
Work experience in Canada can be gained through the PGWP. This work experience makes the individual eligible for various other immigration programs, both federal as well as provincial.
Family sponsorship is another way of acquiring permanent residence in Canada. Through family sponsorship, a Canadian permanent resident or citizen might nominate certain people.
Only a family member that is a citizen/PR of Canada might sponsor an individual for Canadian immigration.
| Permanent residents of Canada might apply for Canadian citizenship after 5 years. To be eligible, they must have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days. |
| Canada PR through the PNP route is a 2-step process. A nomination from any of the provinces and territories part of PNP will have to be secured. Following this, the Nomination Certificate can be used for applying to IRCC for permanent residence. |
