Is UAE a good country to work in?

Yes! The UAE is a good country to work. It is considered as one of the safest countries where young people and their families can live and work peacefully. Around 82 percent of the UAE population said that life in the UAE is optimistic. Around 53 percent of the population revealed that they are expecting a salary increase.  The cost of living is affordable in some parts of the country. A tax-free salary is another big benefit of working in the country.

Employment opportunities in UAE

The UAE has thousands of job vacancies available for immigrants. The five popular states where a lot of job vacancies are available include:

There are no compulsory minimum wages for foreign skilled workers. Many companies provide accommodation and transport facility. Food is also provided by some companies. More than 80 percent of the population in the UAE is that of immigrants from different countries. Paid annual leave of 30 days each year

Employees in the probation period are not eligible for any leaves. Probation period can be of six months or less. Employees who complete six months in an organization are eligible to get 2 paid leaves per month for their first year. After completing the first year, they will get 30 days of paid leaves per year.

Maternity leave of at least 60 days

A pregnant woman in UAE has the benefit of getting 60 paid maternity leaves after six months of pregnancy is completed. Out of these 60 days, employees will get full salary for 45-day leaves and half pay for remaining days. A female employee can also take additional leaves of 45 days but they will be unpaid.

Holiday leave

Public holidays in the UAE that employees get in a year are as follows:

  • Gregorian New Year: 1st January
  • Eid Al Fitr: From 29th day of Ramadhan to 3rd Shawwal*
  • Arafah Day: Dhu Al Hijjah 9th
  • Eid Al Adha; From 10 to 12 of Dhu Al Hijjah (Feast of Sacrifice)
  • Hijri New Year: 1 Muharram *
  • The Prophets Mohammed’s birthday; 12th of Rabi al Awwal
  • Commemoration day: 1st December
  • National Day: 2nd and 3rd December

Diversity in population

Majority of population in the UAE consists of immigrants. There is diversity in population as people of different religions live in the UAE. The table below reveals the details:

Work culture

Parental leave of up to 5 days

A father or a mother can take parental leaves of 5 days to take care of the newly born child. Employees can take these leaves within six months from the date the child was born.

Sick leave

After the completion of the probation period, employees are eligible to take sick leaves of 90 days. Sick leaves can either be taken continuously or intermittently. Salary is paid on the number of sick leaves taken and the details can be found here:

  • 15 days per year - full day pay
  • The next 30 days - half day pay
  • Further leaves taken - No pay

Health insurance

The government of UAE provides funds for the healthcare system. The system is regulated by various authorities in different states of the UAE. The health insurance covers the expenses of regular or severe illness. The expenses include:

  • Doctor consultation
  • Diagnostics and tests
  • Medicines
  • Hospitalization
