What are the 70 points for a UK Skilled Worker visa?

The 70 points required for a UK Skilled Worker Visa are based on the following parameters:

 

  • An employment offer
  • English Language Proficiency
  • PhD in a subject related to the job

 

The 70 points are divided into 2 categories mandatory and tradable. The candidate can earn 50 points in the mandatory category for skill set, sponsorship from a UK employer and English Language Proficiency. The 20 points that are remaining can be earned through the tradable category for the range of income.

Certificate of Sponsorship (20 points)

The applicant has to get 20 mandatory points for a Certificate of Sponsorship. The UK Home Office must approve the UK employer's sponsorship of an employee and give the potential employee a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) that makes them eligible to apply for the visa.

 

Employment offer (20 points)

The applicant must have an employment offer with a relevant skillset to get the mandatory 20 points. The job role must be listed as a UK-eligible occupation to apply for the visa. The job role must generally be at least on Level 3 RQF equivalent to 'A level.'

 

English language proficiency (10 points)

To be eligible for a Skilled Worker Visa, one has to earn a mandatory 10 points for English Language Proficiency. They must be proficient in English with a B1 level on the CEFR in four sections: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

One can earn 20 tradable points if they have a job role with an appropriate minimum income. The annual minimum income for applicants in general is £38,700, or as per the current pay scale for the particular occupation.

 

Any applicant with a low minimum income can still earn tradable 20 points if they have:

 

  • Employment offer listed on the Immigration Salary List
  • Relevant PhD related to their job role
  • Relevant PhD in the STEM field related to their job role
  • Employment offer in the field of health or education
  • Listed as a new entrant
