US Universities continue to dominate top positions in the QS World University Rankings 2020. The top place has been claimed by MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This is the 8th consecutive year that MIT has retained the # 1 ranking globally.
QS Observes that the 2020 rankings record a relatively less movement at the top positions. The top 3 rankings are retained by the same Universities that held them for 2019. The second and third positions have been taken by Stanford and Harvard respectively.
5 US Universities and institutions occupy 50% of the top 10 rankings. The list is rounded off by 4 institutions from the UK and 1 from Switzerland.
Here is the QS World University Rankings 2020:

This is mostly due to the lesser score for overseas students’ ratio, one of the parameters for compiling the rankings.
It is unclear if the effect of Donald Trump and Brexit is making an impact or other factors are responsible. Nevertheless, it may not take much time for other Universities to overtake conventional heavyweights in the US and UK.
The best UK University continues to be Oxford which is succeeded by Cambridge and UCL, as quoted by Study International.
Similar to the previous year, just 3 Universities in Asia have made it to the top 20. The top Universities in Asia are in Singapore - the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Both are tied at the 11th position. Meanwhile, Tsinghua University in China climbed up one position to reach 16th rank.
