The Partner Visa permits the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident to live in Australia. The Subclass 820 or the temporary Partner Visa is granted first and may lead up to the permanent Subclass 801 later on.
The temporary Partner Visa has a length of 2 years. During this time, your relationship with your partner or spouse is assessed to ensure that your intention is to stay with your partner. You will be granted the permanent Partner Visa if your relationship passes the test.
The permanent Partner Visa has a validity of 5 years, as per IOL. It is a Permanent Residency Visa. You may be able to Apply for Australian Citizenship after completing 4 years.
The Partner Visa of Australia is assessed on the following criteria:
You must be outside of Australia if you are submitting a Partner Visa application under Subclass 309 or Subclass 100. You should also be outside of Australia during the decision of the above visas. You will, however, be allowed to travel to Australia on another visa while your application is being processed.
While your application is being processed, you will not be able to apply for a Bridging Visa to let you live and work in Australia.
The Partner Visa of Australia also allows you to include your dependent children in your visa application. You may also include dependent step-children if any.
