Preet Bharara the India-born ex-top national prosecutor in Manhattan has said that his Indian legacy makes him very proud as it has made him more tolerant and compassionate towards other citizens.

Bharara refused to quit as Southern District of New York’s Attorney and was thus removed from his post by Donald Trump. Currently, he is an illustrious scholar at the School of Law at New York University and continues to work on issues such as corporate accountability, national security, honest government and social and criminal justice.

In a conversation with the Dean of School of Law at New York University, Bharara said that he is an Indian-American and is very proud of his heritage, roots, and background. He also added that while he listens to Punjabi music Bhangra, he is also a huge fan of Springsteen, as quoted by Indian Express.

When he was enquired regarding the influence of his background and heritage in shaping his personal and professional life, Bharara said that he hails from a background that is multicultural and his kids are aware of the heritage of India as well as being US citizens.

He explained that several people have enquired regarding the influence of hailing from a minority community in the US and the heritage of India in making him more tolerant and compassionate towards other people. Bharara replies that it does make him so, but what matters to him more is the fact that he is an immigrant than as being an Indian-American, adding that he and his family are very thankful to the US for all that the nation has given to them.

Bharara very fondly recollected that his father had arrived at the US barehanded but after forty years Bharara went on to become the global financial capital’s federal law enforcement officer.

Bharara went on to say that he appreciates the fact that he is the first US Attorney with an Indian origin to be appointed by first US President of African origin. It is not a mean achievement, added the former Attorney of New York.
