Indo-American student Kavya Kopparapu has been chosen for the 2018 -2019 US National STEM Award. She is a Harvard University freshman conducting research at the intersection of computer science and medicine.

The award honours an individual who demonstrates excellence in the practical and theoretical STEM education fields. They must also have promoted STEM education meaningfully.

Kavya Kopparapu has invented Glio-Vision an AI-powered accuracy medicine platform. It calculates characteristics of tumour in a small division of the cost and time of the conventional methods. The other award and recognition for Kavya include:

The TIME magazine honoured the Indo-American student Kavya for her attempt to make a difference. This was after knowing about late Sen. John McCain. He had battled glioblastoma an aggressive cancer of the brain. Kavya thus decided to make a difference.

The Harvard University student developed a deep-learning based on the computer system. This could scan tissue slides of patients suffering from brain cancer. It is for differences in cellular alignment, texture, colour, and density. These are specific to the case of the individual person, as quoted by the India West.

The goal of Kavya was to develop therapies that are targeted and unique to the individual. A provisional patent has been awarded for her system. She hopes to commence clinical trials this year. This is in collaboration with Georgetown University’s neuropathologist.

Apart from this, Kavya has also addressed NASA Kennedy Space Centre and at the Smithsonian. She has also addressed many Artificial Intelligence Conferences.

Koparapu is the CEO and Founder of GirlsComputingLeague.org. This has raised more than $100,000 meant for programming in computer science that impacts 3,800 plus students across the US.
