What is the difference between German PR and German Blue Card?

Germany offers several visas for visitors, working professionals, and citizens who want to migrate to Germany. If you want to migrate to Germany for a permanent residency, you might be interested in Germany PR or Germany Blue Card. Though both are types of residence permits offered by Germany, there are some major differences between the two:

  • The Germany PR is a permanent residence permit with unlimited validity, while the Germany Blue card is valid only for four years and is subject to renewal.
  • The German PR is accepted in all EU countries, while the Germany Blue Card is valid only in Germany.
  • The German PR requires a minimum residence of 5 years in Germany, while the Germany Blue Card allows you to apply after 33 months of stay in Germany.
  • You must have contributed to the statutory pension scheme for at least 60 months to get a German PR, while the German Blue card requires a minimum annual gross salary of €58,400.
