You should study in Canada for more than 8 months at a designated university and earn a degree or certificate.

Canada Post-Graduate Work Permit

The Canadian government offers a working permit to international students who complete their graduation from a Canadian Designated Learning Institute (DLI). The post-graduation work permit is a kind of open work permit that allows a graduate to work anywhere in Canada under any employer for any number of hours of their choice. This work permit enables freshers to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

 

To become eligible for a Post-graduate work permit,

 

  • you should be at least 18 years old
  • you must graduate from any of the Canadian Designated Learning Institutes
  • the study program you choose in any Canadian DLI should be over 8 months.
  • you must apply for a PGWP within 180 days from the date of completion of the study program

 

Students who apply for PGWP before their study visa expires can start working full-time for a Canadian employer immediately after applying while their application is being processed. The work permit validity depends on the length of the program you choose. The validity generally ranges from 8 months to 3 years.

Canada Work Permit

Any foreign national willing to start a job in Canada meeting all the necessary requirements need a Canadian work permit. The Canada work permit is a legal document given to any foreign individual wanting to relocate and work in Canada.

 

There are two types of Canadian work permits: Open work permits and Closed work permits.

 

  • The Open work permit allows eligible foreign workers to come and work in Canada for an employer without requiring a specific job offer or a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) report. On the other hand, the closed work permit allows foreign individuals to work in Canada but requires a valid job offer and an LMIA report.
  • A closed work permit holder is allowed to work for a single employer till the validity of their work permit. However, an individual with an open work permit has access to work for any employer in any Canadian region.
  • A Canadian closed work permit costs 155 CAD per person, and 255 CAD per person for an open work permit.
  • The processing time for the Canadian work permit varies depending upon the type of work permit chosen. The work permit takes around 1 to 4 months to get processed.
