Doctors who have met the educational requirements and have a valid license to practice can apply for an H-1B visa. Doctors who are foreign medical graduates (FMG), that is, who have completed their MBBS or M.D. in a foreign country, must clear the American license exam - United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) to practice in the USA.

To apply for an H-1B visa as a doctor, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

 

  • Passport
  • Passport size photos
  • Educational Transcripts
  • Clear a licensing exam
  • Approval from Labor Condition Approval (LCA)
  • Authorization from the Department of Labor (DOL)
  • Proof of sufficient Funds

The process to apply for an H-1B visa as a Doctor is as follows:

Step 1: Writing the USMLE Exam

The applicant must obtain a license to practice in the U.S. by clearing the USMLE licensing exam.

Step 2: LCA Approval

After clearing the exam, they must get Labor Condition Approval (LCA) approval.

Step 3: Registering with the DOL

The applicants must register with the Department of Labor DOL for work authorization.

Step 4: Getting a Job offer

To work in the U.S. as a Doctor, they need to be employees of an organization or entity that abides by the USCIS rules and regulations.

Step 5: Submitting the Application

Applicants must apply for the H-1B visa by submitting Form I -129.

Step 6: Receiving the Visa

The applicants will receive their visa after it is processed.

Step 7: Migrating to the US

Visa holders can now migrate to the USA and practice medicine.
