International students can work while studying abroad in Austria. The number of hours they can work depends on the visa or permits. International students can work in Austria during their studies if they have a Student Residence Permit. If the student has an innovative idea for a company, they can establish a firm during their studies. If they want to work as an employed person during their studies, the company has to apply for a work permit before they are permitted to begin work.

After the student has completed their degree, they can apply for a residency permit that will allow them to stay in the country for 1year. Austria doesn’t have a post-graduation visa. Instead, they provide a residency permit to look for employment or start a business in the country.

There is one type of visa or permit that is issued to post-graduate students to work in Austria:
Red-White-Red Card for Graduates: International students can continue residing in Austria after studying with an Austria residence permit. Within this period, if the graduate is able to get employed and can obtain employment from a specified employer (work contract) that matches the qualification level of the student, then they can apply for Red-White-Red Card. The Red-White-Red Card for Graduates doesn’t require the student to take a labor market test. The student needs to meet the basic requirements for the red-white card for graduates.
